Cheetah Experience is a registered non-profit company originally based in Bela Bela, Limpopo, South Africa.
We are home to a number of endangered and threatened species, including cheetahs, leopards, male non-breeding lions, servals, caracals, African wildcats, wolves, meerkats, and a Siberian tiger. Our project takes in rescued animals from the local area, so we also have various animals from time to time.
We are also home to Track Rehabilitation that assists the local community with the rehabilitation of injured, orphaned wildlife.
We offer a wide range of Volunteer and Internship Programmes, which have seen over 1,000 hard-working, dedicated people from 33 countries come and be a special part of the Cheetah Experience Global Volunteer Family, and contribute to conservation in South Africa.
We follow the goal of raising awareness of the vulnerability of South African endangered species through educational experiences, ethically breeding cheetahs in captivity, and releasing such in the protected wild.
ZA Cheetah Conservation is supported by the "Förderverein ZA Cheetah Con servation e.V." which is officially registered under the German law and accepted by the tax office.

In December 2016 cheetah population figures were revised, showing alarmingly dwindling numbers. As a result the cheetah is now very much facing a race for survival.
The best estimates put world population numbers at 7,100, down from around 100,000 in 1900. The cheetah is also now confined to 9% of their historical distributional range.
Due to the species’ dramatic decline, researchers are calling for the cheetah to be up-listed from ‘Vulnerable’ to ‘Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Cheetah conservation projects need urgently to unite their efforts to reverse the declining numbers.
Cheetah Experience is dedicated to fighting for the future survival of the cheetah by focusing in particular on education and research.
At Cheetah Experience we strive to:
Cheetah Experience unreservedly condemns the practices of the canned lion/hunting industry.
Canned hunting is the act of breeding wild animals for the purposes of being killed by trophy hunters. Hunters slaughter these innocent animals within an enclosed space where the animal has no chance of escape.
The four lions we have at Cheetah Experience, Max, Acinonyx, Napoleon, and Anneka are all non-breeding.
We believe that it is our duty to educate the public on the canned hunting industry in South Africa, and discuss this awful practice in the educational experiences we offer to visitors, and the training and induction programme all of our volunteers go through.
At Cheetah Experience we do not condone cub petting/cub cuddling. When we do have juvenile animals at our projects, they are cared for by our experienced staff, with volunteers assisting in their care when required, and only after going through a training and induction programme.
